Brenda James Griffin is a respected and beloved advocate for Georgia children. This native Atlantan draws from her experiences as a community leader, PTA president, wife, mother and grandmother in creating a modern parable.

This generous working woman and former single mother continues to give her time and heart to organizations addressing the concerns of children and the working poor. Her dedication and service to the community have been recognized with numerous awards, including Alpha Kappa Alpha 2002 Unsung Hero Award; Georgia State University 2002 Distinguished Alumni Achievement Award; Georgia Department of Agriculture 2002 Community Service Award; Childcare Advocate of the Year; Presidential Commendation Letter for Community Service; Outstanding Georgia Citizen of the Year; Lifetime Georgia PTA membership; Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Outstanding Service, Volunteer and Chairman's Award; Georgia Coalition of Black Women SHERO and Atlanta Women's Network Woman of Significance.

In her professional life, she serves as Assistant Commissioner for Public Affairs and Communications for the Georgia Department of Agriculture. A graduate of David T. Howard High School and Georgia State University, her memberships include Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Kappa Omega Chapter; Atlanta Association of Black Journalists; Atlanta Press Club; Hambrick Elementary School and Stone Mountain High School PTSAs, Georgia Citizens Coalition on Hunger, Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Advisory Board, Georgia Society of Consumer Affairs Professionals, and National Coalition of 100 Black Women. She has also served on the Better Business Bureau Arbitration Board; Carver Homes Southside Development Project Board; Ford Motor Company Consumer Appeals Board; founding Board of Georgia Child Care Council; MELD's Young Teen Moms Program; and Sheltering Arms Child Development and Family Support Board. She also developed the childcare report for the Georgia Welfare Reform Advisory Board TANF program.
